Wyo. sheep known for butting vehicles at park dies

LANDER, Wyo. (AP) — A bighorn sheep named Bam Bam because of his habit of butting vehicles at a Wyoming park has died with his horns, likely of natural causes.

He was the last survivor of the bighorn sheep herd in Sinks Canyon State Park near Lander.

Bam Bam became a local celebrity of sorts when he began showing up near the park's main road in 2007 and allowed people to pet him. He earned the name Bam Bam because he liked to butt vehicles.

He could be heard in the parking lot ramming vehicles, and most park employees have dents, broken taillights and other evidence of their association with Bam Bam. It was not known if any of the vehicles butted by Bam Bam were seriously damaged.  He simply had an aversion to cars.

Bam Bam was friendly with people and liked to be petted.

Fearing for the sheep's and visitors' safety, park managers moved Bam Bam to an enclosed state facility near Wheatland in 2009.

Sinks Canyon Superintendent Darrel Trembly says Bam Bam will be mounted by a taxidermist and put on display in the park's visitor center.

The tawny crazy ant has only been known in the state of Texas (near Pasadena) since 2002. High numbers of the ants have been found in localized spot infestations in southeast Houston (Harris County), including Houston, Pasadena, Deer Park, Friendswood, San Jacinto Port, Pearland, Seabrook and La Porte.  They acquired their common name because they act crazy.  They sting but are not dangerous.

The tawny crazy ant has now been confirmed in 24 counties, including Bexar, Brazoria, Brazos, Comal, Cameron, Fort Bend, Chambers, Galveston, Hardin, Harris, Hidalgo, Jefferson, Jim Hogg, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nueces, Polk, Orange, Travis, Victoria, Walker, Wharton and Williamson counties. New infestations are suspected beyond these areas of infestation. However, sample identifications have not been confirmed. This ant has the potential to spread well beyond the current range in coastal Texas. However, it is a semi-tropical ant and potential northern distribution will be limited by cooler weather conditions.

Esterman says the 59-year-old Jeremy had a heavy feeling in his chest and drove himself to the hospital, where they diagnosed the aneurysm and put him in the intensive care unit.
One of the best-known names in the porn industry, Jeremy has said he's appeared in more than 2,000 adult films.
While officially retired he still shows up in films and public events, and appeared in the reality TV series "The Surreal Life."  Jeremy's life could be described as 'surreal.'

Mont. man made up sob story that got him pizza, then arrested

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Montana man whose tearful reluctance to rob a pizza restaurant earned him free food apparently made up the sob story that gained him the clerk's sympathy.
Police in Helena say 33-year-old David Randall Lacey entered a Papa John's pizza restaurant on Jan. 22 and demanded money. He then broke down crying and told the clerk he needed the money to support his wife and children. The clerk made him a pizza and some chicken wings as he waited, and then he left.
The Independent Record reports (http://bit.ly/14vlTZr ) an investigation found Lacey has no children in Helena and changed his story when he saw how little money was in the cash register — less than $25, according to a police report.
He was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony robbery.

Russian judge fired after falling asleep in court

MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian judge has been fired after he caught 40 winks in court and then sentenced an outraged defendant to five years in prison.

Judge Yevgeny Makhno of Blagoveshchensk City Court in Russia's Far East was forced to resign Friday for obviously falling asleep several times while trying a businessman on charges of fraud.
The case became a national scandal after the defendant's lawyer posted several videos online of Makhno asleep in court. The videos were then shown on state television.

Apparently the judge also took a cell phone call during the trial.

Makhno claimed that he was not sleeping, but listening with his eyes closed, the reports said.
But since a higher court decided not to punish him, Makhno only has to take an exam to be reinstated.
The defendant, however, will be given a new trial.
