A solitary figure surveys millions of pounds of dead herring accumulated in an Icelandic fjord. The stench from the rotting fish is likely to discourage any use of the fjord for some time, especially for swimming. Authorities have provided no explanation for the massive fish kill. Some local fishermen and women, who are superstitious, claim it was a protest by the herring population against over-fishing.
Who knows?
