A dead Detroit man was charged by federal prosecutors with running an illegal lottery.

Herbert Daniels Sr.died about a month ago. He was named in March in a criminal complaint that was unsealed Wednesday.

Daniels was accused of taking bets on legitimate lottery numbers. An informant told the FBI he had been running the illegal operation for decades.

Also indicted were Daniels' wife, Willie Mae Truvillion, who is "gravely ill," and a son who deny the allegations.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office said it didn't know Daniels was dead and will drop the case against him when it receives an official notification.

Meanwhile, according to an unauthorized spokesperson, Daniels cannot be held in contempt for failure to appear in court. He could not be imprisoned, either, due to his deadness. Willie Mae might not be tried either, depending on the gravity of her illness. So the whole load may land on junior who claims he didn't know anything about it.
