Practice Makes Perfect, er, Not Always

Man accused of robbing same Indiana bank 4 times

Oct 19 2010

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Authorities have arrested a man who they believe robbed the same South Bend bank branch four times since late August. Federal prosecutors allege that 42-year-old William Easley robbed the 1st Source Bank on Aug. 23, Sept. 10, Oct. 5 and Wednesday, taking about $14,000 in all.

The South Bend Tribune reported Easley surrendered at the St. Joseph County Jail early Saturday. It was not immediately clear why the robber turned himself in after 4 successful heists. He had to explain to the desk sergeant several times that he really was a bank robber. But the robber was forced to sleep in the police station waiting room until Monday morning when a federal magistrate ordered him jailed until a preliminary hearing Thursday.

Authorities said that in each robbery the man entered the bank on the city's east side, brandishing what appeared to be a handgun. The robber wore a bandanna over his face, but tellers believed it was the same person.

A message seeking comment was left for Easley's defense attorney, which was a waste of time because he never called back.
