Aging German 'Hippy' Busted By Cops Over "Pot" Christmas Tree

German police discover "pot" plant decorated as Xmas tree

Dec 09 2010

BERLIN — German police say an "old hippy" is facing possible prosecution for his version of the, ahem, highest Christmas tree _ a festively decorated two-meter-tall marijuana plant.

Koblenz police spokesman Ralf Schomisch says officers raided the apartment of the 58-year-old man following a tip Monday and uncovered a cache of 5.3 ounces (150 grams) of marijuana.

Then in the living room they discovered the tree _ a "pot" plant adorned with Christmas lights. The suspect, whose name was not released, said he had planned to decorate it further and put presents under it at Christmas.

But it was not to be. Schomisch said Thursday that authorities "had to destroy this pre-Christmas dream" and seize the plant as evidence.

No photo of the Koblenz "hippy" was available so a photo of Richie Havens, a 'hippy' musician who played at Woodstock in 1967, is shown above standing alongside a replica of one of the festively painted buses driven around the U.S. by groups of hippies spreading the message of turning on and dropping out.

The writer, Ken Kesey, and his band of 'Merry Pranksters' who traveled around the country stoned, were the subjects of a popular chronicle by Tom Wolfe, "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test." Wolfe traveled with the group on the bus whilst gathering ideas for his book. A large cooler of LSD-laced Kool-Aid was kept on the bus at all times to keep the pranksters 'trippin'.

News Flash! In late breaking news, Koblenz police discovered a booking photo of the aging hippy busted for pot. The photo of Richie Havens is still Richie Havens; all that has changed is the addition of the aging hippy's photo, top left. The unnamed man has requested crucifixion instead of the usual German method of boiling in hot oil should he receive the death penalty for pot possession.
